When your garage door won't open, the usual cause is a broken torsion spring, and that is a repair call rather than a quick fix.
A bang from the garage followed by a door that will not lift almost always means a broken garage door spring.
A garage door hanging crooked or off its track usually has a snapped or unwound lift cable, a broken roller, or a track bent by a car.
When a garage door won't close, its own photo eyes are usually stopping it: something blocks the beam between the two sensors near the floor, or one got knocked out of line.
A loose garage door cable has usually come off its drum or snapped, leaving one side of the door unsupported while the springs are still wound.
A garage door stuck halfway is usually stopped by a broken spring, a lift cable off its drum or a jammed roller.

A visit takes four steps, and the price is settled at the second one, before a technician drives out.
Call, text or use the quote form and describe what the door is doing. A photo of the full door, plus one taken up close of the spring above it or the label on the motor, usually identifies the fix.
We name the repair and its posted price before you book. If anything could move that number, you hear about it now, not in the driveway.
The technician confirms the cause, holds up the worn part so you can see it, and fits the replacement from stock carried on board.
Before leaving we balance the door, run the auto-reverse check, and try the remote and wall button with you standing there.
You get a posted price, a same-day visit in most cases, and a stocked truck, wherever you live on our routes.
We work in Portland, the towns around it and Clark County, Washington, from St. Johns to Oregon City and from Hillsboro to Camas, with the same posted prices in every town.

Each guide answers one question we hear at the door in plain words and lists the sources behind it.
Choose a chain drive where nobody hears the garage, a belt drive when living space shares a wall or ceiling with it, and a wall-mount opener when the door hangs on torsion springs and you want a clear ceiling.
In Oregon, search the contractor's number on the Construction Contractors Board license search; in Washington, look the business up in L&I's Verify tool.
Replacing the door on a detached or alley garage in Portland starts with the building: measure the opening, confirm the jambs and header are square and solid, check for power, and work out how much room the door has to open.
From a safe distance, look for a spring with a gap in its coil, a slack cable, a roller out of its track, and a blinking opener light. Tell us which of those you see, or text a photo, and we can usually name the repair before the call ends. Look without touching: springs, cables and bottom brackets carry the door's weight under tension.
With the door fully closed, pull the red emergency release cord and raise the door by hand. If it rises smoothly and stays put halfway, the door is healthy and the opener is at fault. If it feels heavy, drops or binds, the springs, cables or tracks need work, and the opener should stay disconnected until then.
Most of them. Springs, lift cables, drums, rollers, hinges, track straightening, opener gears and trolleys, photo eyes, remotes and bottom seals all come off the truck. New doors, matched sections for older doors and some opener logic boards get ordered after we measure or confirm the model, which is when a second visit happens.
Yes, and the most useful thing you can do is tell us exactly what was changed. A spring that was wound by hand, a cable put back on its drum or an opener force setting turned up each points us to a different check. Until we arrive, leave the door where it sits and unplug the opener if anyone worked on the springs, cables or tracks.
All the common ones in Portland garages, including LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Genie, Craftsman, Linear, Marantec and Overhead Door, plus older lines like Legacy. Many of them share standard parts such as drive gears, trolleys and photo eyes. For an opener we have not seen before, a photo of its label lets us confirm parts before the visit.
Yes. We install steel sectional, insulated and carriage-style doors, and we quote wood and custom doors from measurements. A new door comes with new tracks, springs sized to its weight and a full balance. If the door you have only needs a repair, we tell you that first, because most doors are worth fixing.
Call with the symptom, or text a photo of the door and the opener, and we will name the part and the posted price before anyone drives out.
